Yasmine Wilson, Class of 2012
#4
Yasmine was an outstanding player for the Falcons during her four years on campus. Her tremendous shot blocking, rebounding, and scoring ability, coupled with her uncanny quickness for a big made her a terror both offensively and defensively for the Falcons in her career. A big part of teams that put together a school record 38 straight league wins over a three year period. She was also a part of the history making State playoff qualifying team of 2011 that reached the CIF State Playoffs. Plenty of fast breaks started and ended with Yas grabbing a board, then streaking up the sidelines going coast to coast for a bucket. Most teams payed so much attention to stopping Yasmine from getting offensive opportunities in the paint, her offensive numbers were not what they could have been on most nights (they were still quite impressive), but on most game nights, she filled up the stat sheet in all areas despite all of the attention from opponents. Yasmine's mere presence on the floor created opportunities for other teammates to score since teams were so fearful of her abilities. Like all great players, her presence alone made these events possible. This young lady was a tremendous student as well, choosing not to play basketball in college, even though she had offers to do so. She chose instead to concentrate on her academic studies graduating top 5 in her class; BUT OHH, WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN!!!
Article during Yasmine's senior year (2012):
Girls Hoops: Duarte's Yasmine Wilson dominates in Glendora tourney title game, finishing with 27 points and 23 rebounds in win over Eagle Rock Posted on December 30, 2011 by Fred Robledo
Duarte High School point guard Imari Brown admits she was not on top of her game.
It did not matter. Yasmine Wilson was there to rescue the Falcons.
The senior center scored four consecutive baskets in a key stretch of the fourth quarter to propel Duarte to the Glendora Tournament championship for the second consecutive year, holding off Eagle Rock, 66-63, on Thursday night.
“We’ve been trying to do that for the last three years,” Duarte coach Mark Smith said of getting the ball to Wilson.
“Normally we’ve got Imari Brown and she goes wild. They had her number and that’s OK. We have other weapons.”
The Falcons took advantage of the Eagles’ lack of height. Wilson scored 27 points with all of her field goals made from underneath the basket. She also had 23 rebounds.
Her Honors:
2011 - ALL CIF Division IV
2012 - ALL CIF Division IV
2010 - 1ST TEAM ALL MONTVIEW LEAGUE
2011 - 1ST TEAM ALL MONTVIEW LEAGUE
2012 - 1ST TEAM ALL MONTVIEW LEAGUE

Yasmine thought about going back to basketball, it should have happened, but a coach with a one track mind thwarted that effort. She did letter in track at CSUDH - what an amazing young woman.
