FALCONS END 2018 SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE WITH A THRILLING VICTORY OVER AZUSA.
6-16 OVERALL, 4-6 LEAGUE 1/30/2019
Our Falcons ran out to an 18 - 4 lead behind the sparkling play of junior captain Alyssa Cartagena. With sophomore Athena Rouhana out for the season, the offensive load dwindled down to leading scorer Cartagena and sophomore G Giselle Salinas to lead the charge as they have all season. Defense showed the way early - the press the Falcons utilized all game turned the Aztecs over quite a bit in the early going. By the time the second half began, the lead had been cut to single digits by the Aztecs. By the end of the third quarter, the Aztecs had stormed all the way back to tie the contest at 23 all. The fourth quarter became a scoring feast compared to the second and third periods - both teams really getting after it offensively. In the end our Falcons would prevail led by Cartagena, Salinas, junior F Gabriela Gonzalez, freshman G Ginna Bernal, and sophomore G Kimberly Becerra down the stretch to seal a 41-36 victory over the Aztecs.
Great job coaches/players - way to end your regular season on a high note.

Last night our Falcons got a big win over Azusa at the Falcon dome to move their record to 2-3 in Montview league play. This is the beginning of rebuilding within the program after losing some sterling players over the last few seasons to graduation. Patricia with her family at Pauley Pavilion after a Beaver win over the Bruins Friday night.
The prodigal daughter returns - Former DHS star returns to L.A. for 1st time as an Oregon State Beaver
1/11/2019
Former Falcon standout Patricia Morris made her first trip home as a member of the Oregon State University women's basketball team to play against the L.A. schools - UCLA & USC. Oregon State is the #10 ranked team in America, so this was definitely a business trip for the Beavers to keep momentum as they move toward a showdown with the #5 ranked Oregon Ducks on Feb.15th for Pac-12 supremacy. Trish had a lot of family and friends at Pauley to take in the game (this writer included).
To see Patricia and listen to her describe her happiness as a college student athlete. To hear her describe her wonderful coaches and teammates, and listening to the banter with former classmates about what classes they are taking so far and what's challenging about their majors was refreshing.
All of FALCON NATION is so proud of you Trish - we look forward to the NCAA tourney run this year as well as next year when yourself and Andrea (Aquino) should be getting opportunities with the rest of your talented squad to change college basketball.

It's been a tough season, but this was a well deserved win for our girls - FALCON NATION hopes for more wins to close out the year.

Former Falcon Head Coach Roderick Richardson losses his life in fatal car accident. (Dec 6,1971- Dec 16, 2018)
(Coach Richardson at far left second row)
Rod Richardson was the Falcon's head coach from 2012 - 2015. Richardson guided the Falcons to 1 undefeated Montview league title in 2015, and two second place finishes during his time as head coach at DHS. Most will remember his easy going nature and kindness in working with our kid's during his years at the helm. Coach Richardson had moved back to his home state of Illinois over the past few years to work closer to most of his family. All of Falcon Nation would like to send our deepest condolences and our most heartfelt prayers to his mother, his daughters, and all of his close family & friends.
R.I.P coach - use those X's and O's to diagram the perfect game in heaven.

Our Falcons season has come to and end after a 2nd round playoff loss to Righetti High School. Although this years team had some dramatic lows at the beginning of the season, but as all great programs do, they bounced back to have a great season. This years group ran the school record conference winning streak to 45 games (amazing). We will have to find out from league historians because this may be the longest in league history by far - but what an accomplishment. 14-10 overall, 8-0 league (2/2/2018 - 2/3/2018)
Our Falcons walked through visiting Nogales 54-27 at Duarte High School on Friday night. The visiting nobles never threatened trailing 20-8 after the first quarter, 29-14 at the half , and 43-14 at the end of the third quarter. Our Falcons executed offensively exceptionally well during this contest making the defense work and getting some really good looks for buckets wearing down the nobles - discouraging their defensive efforts completely. Patricia Morris, Alyssa Cartagena, and Delaney Thompson led the charge in this one to push our Falcons out to a huge lead before the start of the 4th quarter for the win.
Saturday's contest versus Rio Mesa saw the Falcons get off to a bit of a slow start. The second half saw the Falcons run away with this contest behind the play of Patricia Morris, Macy Barnes, and Alyssa Cartagena. Ultimately the Falcons walked away with a 50-27 win - great job ladies.

Falcons make history once again - 39 straight league wins (1/19/2018)
With the win over Gladstone High School on Jan.19th, our Falcons have made history once again. From 2010-2013, our Varsity Falcons won 38 straight Montview League contests with a group of players that were together for pretty much the entire four years at the varsity level. That streak was snapped in Jan. 2013 with a loss to the eventual league champion that year - Workman. Flash forward a few years and after a few starts, then restarts, our girls started another streak that this writer and then Falcon Coach Scott Wiard discussed last year. We both checked records to ensure we were correct, then made keeping track of this a "silent" priority. Our special 2015-2016 team chipped in with the bulk of these league wins over a two year period where they were just plain dominant. So 2017-2018 brought us to 35 straight league wins (you can fact check in our archive news file stories on this site).
You would be hard pressed to find any teams locally or otherwise that have managed to put not one, but two streaks together like this at all in any sport. Obviously a football program like Concord De LaSalle would come to mind since they went 10 years without losing a game at all (phenomenal), but not a lot of programs have sustained success in any conference like this. So hat's off to all of the young athletes that donned Duarte uniforms and contributed to both streaks. A big ovation to this years group for continuing the streak, despite the rough patches they have gone through earlier during this season.
Here is the list of all of the players starting from the 2013-2014 season's group under Coach Richardson that started the streak, to Coach Wiards unblemished group that really moved the streak along, to current Coach Beverly Ball's group that continue to be the gatekeepers of the streak. See screen shots of each squad, one team that included a young lady that we lost far too soon Jamaari Adams (R.I.P.).

Falcons roll into the New Year and get a much needed league win over Azusa.
01-10-18 (Duarte, Ca.)
After a rough 3-10 start to the 2017-2018 campaign, the Falcons rolled to a 58-14 win over league foe Azusa at Falcon gym this evening. Just to sum up the Falcons good fortune on this night, junior guard Delaney Thompson hit a half court shot right before the half to give the Falcons a 25 point cushion at the break.
Patricia Morris did her usual work for the Falcons on the interior, but an overall great effort by the entire team gave the Falcons the victory in blowout fashion.
This may be what the doctor ordered for our Falcons after a rough start to move their overall record to 4-10 (1-0 in Montview League play). Next opponent for the Falcons - the always tough Dons of Sierra Vista (at Sierra Vista, Baldwin Park, Ca.).

Oregon State WBB is on fire; Morris commits
Mike Singer | Recruiting Editor
The Jamie Weisner and Sydney Wiese era at Oregon State has ended as they have moved on to careers in the WNBA. These are two of the best ladies that the Oregon State Women's Basketball has ever seen, but head coach Scott Rueck is not in the rebuilding business. His teams reload.
Oregon State signed a stellar 2017 recruiting class by bringing in five-star forward Taya Corosdale, four-star guard Aleah Goodman, and junior college center transfer Joanna Grymek. Rueck is very excited about the Beav's 2017 class.
Fast-forward to the 2018 recruiting class that Scott Rueck has put together - it's impressive.
5-foot-9 point guard Katie Mayhue was Oregon State's first commit of the 2018 class and is excited about her future at Oregon State. The cornerstone recruit of the class is 6-foot-9 post player Andrea Aquino, a five-star prospect and No. 7 overall recruit in the country.
The Beavers landed a third 2018 commitment last week as 5-foot-11 wing player Jasmine Simmons from Australia.
Last Wednesday, BeaversEdge.com first reported the news of a fourth commitment for Rueck's 2018 recruiting class.
6-foot-7 forward Patricia Morris is the newest commitment for the Beavs. She is from Duarte High School in Duarte, California. Morris committed to Oregon State the weekend of Mother's Day during an official visit.
"Oregon State had been recruiting me since last April, so I had been building a relationship with the coaches for a while," Morris told BeaversEdge.com. "I took an unofficial visit in November, and I loved Corvallis. I really liked the small town feel at Oregon State, and the support of the fans at the game was crazy.
"I really like all of the players, and the coaches are great. I watched their games on the Pac-12 Network and noticed how much they utilize their big players."
Morris took her visit this past week with Aquino, and they enjoyed the visit. They hung out with the Beaver players and were able to scrimmage with them as well (without the coaches present).
Morris has taken a strong liking to the OSU coaches.
"Coach Scott (Rueck) has been to my house, and coach Jonas (Chatterton) has been twice. Coach Brian (Holsinger) has called me a few times; he's hilarious.
"I think I've talked to coach Katie (Baker) the most. I practice my Mandarin with coach Eric (Ely). All of the coaching staff is so welcoming. Coach Scott has done a great job of creating a family environment at Oregon State."
Off the court, Morris is a "very family oriented person." On the court, her favorite post move is her hook shot.
BeaversEdge.com is the unquestioned source on all things Oregon State Women's Basketball.
