FALCONS 2017 SEASON COMES TO A DISAPPOINTING END IN CIF 1-A 3RD ROUND PLAYOFF GAME
Our Falcons faught valiantly, but came up short against an aggressive Huntington Beach squad. The Falcons finish the 2016-2017 season with an overall record of 27-5, their 4th quarterfinals appearance in the last 7 years. Add last years CIF 4-AA finals appearance and two CIF State playoff appearances - one CIF 4-A state appearance in 2010-2011 and last years CIF 4-A State Quarterfinals appearance. Falcon nation is very proud of these young ladies especially considering our girls took the largest jump in divisions in 2016-2017 moving from 4-AA to 1-A this year - higher than any other school in the area by far. Our program never gets the credit that it truly deserves - well local media, you cannot argue with the fact's that the lady Falcons program is amongst the Valleys most successful over the last 10 years.
To the coaching staff and most of all the players, Falcon nation is extremely proud of all that you have accomplished - and all that you will continue to accomplish.

FALCONS GET HARD FOUGHT VICTORY OVER MURRIETA VALLEY - CIF 1ST ROUND
Our Falcons started out quickly running out to a 7-2 lead before they realized they were going to be in for a tough game against a determined Murrieta Valley squad. Murrietta Valley took a 34-32 lead into the locker room at the half. The third quarter saw several lead changes with both teams dead-locked at the end of the 3rd quarter 38-38. The Falcons would put on the full court press and pull away late in the game to seal the contest with a few key buckets and some timely free throw shooting led by the dynamic duo of senior Ryley Thompson, and junior Patricia Morris.
Junior Macy Barnes may have played the most important role of the night though. Her tremendous defense throughout the second half was key in keeping Nighthawk De Brianna Hampton in check. Hampton hurt the Falcons in the paint offensively for most of the first half, Macy held her scoreless the entire second half to allow the Falcons to take control of this contest and run away with a 51- 40 victory at Falcon gym.
Coach Wiard made several nice offensive adjustments during the ball game, but his switch of the defensive assignment on Hampton was key, especially after the Nighthawks 6'3 center Megan Ormiston fouled out before the beginning of the 4th quarter - making Hampton the only low post option. The Falcons held on to run their record to 26-4 and earn a second round tournament date against Hart High School on Saturday at 7pm @ Hart High School. GREAT JOB FALCONS!!!!!!!

LACK OF RESPECT FROM THE LOCAL MEDIA - NOTHING NEW
This weeks basketball rankings in the Tribune tell the same story (no respect for our Falcons). Look at how our Falcons have played an incredibly tough non-league schedules for year's, doesn't seem to matter to the writers who work for the local papers in the area. Our girls have played OC schools, have played LA city schools, have played SF Valley schools, have played traditional central coast power schools and all we get to read about is how tough everyone else's opponents are. Outside of the Falcons upset loss to West Covina in the Ella Hudson Classic this year, when we schedule area teams that are supposed to be powers we typically throttle them. I guess the gentleman who writes the sports blog forgets even a few years ago when we had a home/away series with Covina and we blew them out on a regular basis. This writer is getting very tired of the lack of respect our kids get in this area even when they are successful. WAKE UP TRIBUNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Girls Basketball Rankings 1/16/2017
1. Rowland (16-1) — Only team in Valle Vista with chance of beating it is on Friday against Covina.
2. Glendora (17-2) — Surprisingly easy 18-point win over Diamond Bar followed by beating over South Hills.
3. Los Altos (14-2) — With ten straight wins including shocker over Walnut, Conqs need to be taken seriously.
4. Walnut (15-3) — The favorites to win the Hacienda lost a big one to rival Los Altos, 52-47.
5. Covina (17-3) — It will host Rowland on Friday in the biggest game of the year for both.
6. Duarte (16-4) — Should cruise home in the Montview, but solid non-league win over Newbury Park, 51-50.
7. Diamond Bar (15-4) — Is 1-1 in Palomares after loss to Glendora and win over Ayala.
8. Bishop Amat (14-6) – Is 1-1 in Camino Real and already with more wins than last year.
9. West Covina (13-7) — Big wins over Charter Oak and Diamond Ranch.
10. Bonita (9-7) — Palomares is so tough Bearcats probably won’t do better than fourth.

As the high school girls basketball seasons continues through the holidays in preparation for league and the CIF Southern Section playoffs that follow, plenty of area teams have reason to think big.
Duarte advanced to the Division 4AA championship last year, losing to St. Paul 45-44 in the final, and has key players back.
Rowland advanced to the Division 2A semifinals, and returns arguably the best player in Tianna Eaton, the reigning area player of the year.
Diamond Bar advanced to the quarterfinals in Division 1A, one of the toughest divisions in Southern California, and South Hills made it to the Division 3AA quarterfinals.
And now there are others looking good in holiday tournaments like Covina, Walnut, Los Altos, West Covina, Bonita, and Glendora, all of whom find themselves in the Tribune’s first top ten rankings of the season.
So where does everyone fall in line? Here’s our first look.
#1 ROWLAND RAIDERS
The Raiders went undefeated in the Valle Vista League, earning their first league title since 1988 and parlayed that into a Division 2A semifinal appearance, their first since 1979.
The Raiders, who were a stunning 25-3 last year, will remain in Division 2A and have nearly everyone back in hopes of chasing a championship in a couple of months led by reigning area player of the year Tianna Eaton, who also was a CIF first team selection.
Eaton, headed to UC Riverside, averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds, and she has a fine supporting cast that includes junior Faith Castillo, who plays with a chip on her shoulder, and will likely be the teams’ second-leading scorer.
Also back is junior and two-year starter Nicolle Woo, who was injured most of last year and is huge piece to have back, and junior Rachel Campinia, a strong defender who will be asked to score more this season.
Also keep track of freshman Kaylin Ngo, who already is averaging 10 points for a Raiders team off to a 6-1 start having advanced to the finals of the Bonita tournament, and playing well in this week’s Duarte tournament, hoping to advance to Saturday’s championship.
#2 DIAMOND BAR BRAHMAS
The Brahmas return all-around senior Juliana Gamboa, who earned area first team honors last year after averaging 12 points, four rebounds and three steals, and she showed a preview of what her senior year is all about with a quadruple-double this week with 30 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 steals in a 85-48 victory over Wilson.
The Brahmas, who were 24-5 last year and reached the Division 1A quarterfinals, will remain in Division 1A and will likely be the Palomares League favorites after finishing second to South Hills a year ago.
Another big reason for optimism is senior center Candace Black, who had 19 points and seven rebounds in the win over Wilson, and senior Lauryn Del Campo. Add freshman Karen Shao, and no wonder the Brahmas are off and rolling to a 4-0 start.
#3 COVINA COLTS
A year after finishing 22-7, the Colts return Tribune first-team selection Mariah Sierra, who also was a Division 4AA first team standout after averaging 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
The early returns are promising for the Colts, off to a perfect 6-0 start, which includes a 49-36 victory over South Hills in Wednesday’s quarterfinals of its own Covina tournament. The Colts will face Valley View in Friday’s semifinals at 8 p.m.
Along with Sierra, the Colts welcome back senior Diana Navarro, a second-team all-area selection who averaged 10 points, and junior Allison Ayala, a third-team all-area selection from a year ago who averaged 12 points, but who has upped her game, currently leading the team in scoring with an 18 point average through six games.
There is also returning sophomore Mariana Cruz, who averaged nearly 10 points as a freshman, so expect the Colts to give Rowland all it can handle in the chase for the Valle Vista league crown.
#4 DUARTE FALCONS
The Falcons had a dream season under first year coach Scott Wiard, advancing to the Division 4AA title game and losing a heartbreaker to St. Paul in the final seconds, 45-44.
The Falcons return 6-foot-7 junior Patricia Morris, who earned area first team honors after averaging 12 points and 11 rebounds, and second-team all-area standout Ryley Thompson, a senior averaging 11 points through the first two weeks.
The Falcons also expect sophomore Delaney Thompson to be a big help, but they graduated super guard MacKenzie Barnes, and though the Falcons remain the Montview League favorites, their success last year has catapulted the Falcons to Division 1A in the first year of division realignment that places teams in divisions based solely on competitive equity, so a deep run in the playoffs will be much more difficult.
The Falcons are off to a 3-1 start, which included a surprising loss to West Covina this week in its own tournament, which makes the chance of the Falcons advancing to the finals on Saturday much more difficult.
#5 WALNUT MUSTANGS
The Mustangs are usually fighting for the Hacienda League title under longtime coach Lori Huckler, but they only finished 15-10 and wound up third in the Hacienda a year ago.
But with nearly everyone back, they’ll be in the league title hunt.
The Mustangs return two all-area third steam standouts in junior Yasmin Dabbous, a forward, and senior Jenna Pitpit, a guard.
The Mustangs are off to a 3-0 start, which includes a pair of wins in this week’s Duarte tournament, defeating Knight 58-32 and Bellflower, 71-39. If the Mustangs defeat Banning on Thursday, they will get a shot at No. 1 Rowland on Friday in the final round of pool play that will determine who advances to Saturday’s championship.
#6 LOS ALTOS CONQUERORS
The Conquerors were 20-8 last season and finished second to Chino in the Hacienda League, and return nearly everyone, including junior Ilani Wells, who earned second-team all-area honors as a sophomore.
Two seniors to watch out for are Jezteni Espinoza and Kaylee Shozuya, and don’t let the Conquerors’ early 4-2 start fool you, both losses were to quality teams, losing to Sonora in the Whittier tournament and recently to power Roosevelt in the quarterfinals of the Covina tournament.
#7 GLENDORA TARTANS
The Tartans were 15-12 last year, but were only 3-7 in the strong Palomares League, tying for fourth with Ayala.
Expect the Tartans to be much better, as evidenced by its 4-1 start that includes a 59-53 victory over Burroughs to capture the La Habra tournament last week.
Returning is all-area second team selection Michelle Can, a junior leading the team this season with 11 points a game, but also watch out for junior Alexis Lowden, averaging 10 points and who was named the most valuable player of the La Habra tourney.
Also playing well is junior McKayla Tilton, averaging almost 10 points, and sophomore Kayla Sera.
#8 WEST COVINA BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs are the biggest surprise in the top ten, and beating Duarte 50-47 was a big reason why.
The Bulldogs were 11-15 last year, but senior Katrina Ponce De Leon, averaging 15 points, is shooting the ball well, and fellow senior Andrea Bustillo is averaging 10 points, and had 20 points in the win over Duarte.
There are also two freshman to keep an eye on. Lauren Bustillos, Andrea’s sister, is playing well and freshman Nikki Thompson notched 11 points in the win over Duarte.
The Bulldogs are 4-2, which includes losses to Rowland and tough Murrieta Valley early, but if they finish the Duarte tournament with wins over Upland and Bell, they’ll advance to Saturday’s championship, which might be a rematch with Rowland.
#9 SOUTH HILLS HUSKIES
The Huskies graduated all-everything Joy Krupa, but returning is all-area second-team guard Denise Wang, who can light it up from distance.
The Huskies were 21-8 last year and aren’t nearly as deep. Their 2-4 start is some reason for concern, but losses to JSerra, Lakewood and Covina are nothing to worry long-term about, but don’t expect a repeat of the Palomares league title. Diamond Bar is clearly the favorite, but the Huskies should battle Bonita, Ayala and Glendora for the next three spots.
#10 BONITA BEARCATS
The Bearcats return senior guard Alyssa Ono, named to the all-area third team last season after helping her team finish 19-11 and 7-3 in the Palomares League.
The Bearcats are off to a 4-2 start, which included a first-round victory over Charter Oak in the Covina tournament, however they were knocked out in Wednesday’s quarterfinals by Cantwell Sacred Heart, 49-30.
In addition to Ono, sophomore Sami Riggs is expected to be a big contributor. She had 12 points in the loss to Cantwell.

FALCON SPOTLIGHT - JUNIOR PATRICIA MORRIS
6'7 Junior Center Patricia Morris had another monster game in the Falcons league finale - stat line read 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots. College coaches have been fully aware of Patricia's Basketball potential since the 8th grade. Patricia has garnered more attention from college scouts than any women's basketball player in school history.
The list of the schools hot on her trail continues to grow. Early on it was schools like UNLV, USC, and Loyola Marymount that showed interest as early as Patricia's freshman season at DHS. The list has expanded dramatically over the past few years - to add schools like Oregon State, Washington, Stanford, Arizona, Baylor, Texas A&M, Harvard, Princeton, and UC San Diego to name a few.
With all of the added attention - the kid close friends and family call Trish has stayed the same wonderful, humble person - completely unfazed by it all. Credit her wonderful family - parents Kevin and Emily who have raised Patricia and her older brother Kyle to be respectful, caring human beings (which is clearly evident). One cannot understate the importance of a solid foundation at home for kids today - the Morris family has that box checked with an oversized check-mark.
Patricia herself really deserves a tremendous amount of credit for her continued work ethic and being such a coachable young lady (a skill far too many kids today lack). She has had her father work with her once she decided to add basketball to her list of athletic endeavors that at the time included only swimming and tennis. Many students know Mr. Morris as a school administrator, but Kevin himself was a standout player at the University of Texas at San Antonio who went to training camp with the NBA's San Antonio Spurs after college in pursuit of his own NBA dreams. Kevin played with pro's in college like Derrick Gervin - younger brother of NBA legend George "Iceman" Gervin. Derrick played in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets (now Brooklyn Nets). If you are reading this and you do not know who "The Iceman" George Gervin is - it's time to go to the library (or check you tube).
Trish has had other mentors to show her the game, another such mentor has been her grandfather, retired coach Hamp Morris who happens to be enshrined in the Flint (MI) African American Athletic Hall Of Fame (grandpa was a three sport all state athlete - check the books). For those of you who do not know about the city of Flint, Michigan's rich history as a pipeline to schools like Michigan State, Iowa State and other big time basketball and football athletic programs - its time to pick up a book like we used to do when I was a kid (reading is fundamental).
Trish has had other coaches and former college/pro players like Wil White, Cam Murray, and Tracy Murray all work with her non-stop to develop her game over the past few years. The development is obvious - the scary part is that she is just beginning to scratch the surface of her unlimited potential. what has impressed this writer is how Trish has handled attention from other students when she is going to games. People stopping her to take a picture with her even though they do not know her. Gracious would not even begin to describe how well she has dealt with the added attention - for all that she has shown this writer in terms of the young lady that she is - I only have one phrase - "absolutely amazing".
Patricia even managed to become an All-league tennis player in between her basketball education the past few years, no small feat. An honor student with an above 4.0 GPA, this young lady embodies what student athletes should aspire to become - selfless, highly coachable, caring, responsible young role models for other classmates to emulate.

Falcons star Patricia Morris taking one of three official visits to colleges this week - 1st visit K-State
Patricia Morris has had schools like USC, UNLV, Kansas State, Oregon State, Washington, Arizona, Baylor, Texas A&M, UC San Diego, Loyola Marymount and a host of other schools lobbying hard for her services as a collegiate player over the past few years. Her first attention from schools coming as early as 8th grade.
Patricia will visit Manhattan, Kansas over the weekend - home of the Kansas State Wildcats. Tricia will take three official visits before making her decision on which school she will attend. Whomever gets Patricia will be getting a tremendous student and a great kid (first and foremost), in addition to getting an excellent basketball player who will only continue to get better.
Height with standing - schools are always happy to land talent, a lot of which this kid has. This observer has watched her clock in on Sunday and work on her game with two of the greatest basketball players in Southern California hoops history - Tracy and Cam Murray. I have watched her work with former pro - coach Wil White on a Saturday (or Sunday) on her game. So I am bothered when I have noticed students who do not know much about the sport of basketball going to games expecting the heavens and earth to move because Trish is in the post.
The one common denominator is hearing students question this gifted post players abilities since they expect her to catch every errant pass and score every basket. News flash - this gifted post player has great hands and great feet, she will get stronger above the waist and below the waist in her continued growth as a basketball player. For most of the spectators who have made ill advised comments, most of them could not catch any of the darts thrown too low that were supposed to be post entry feeds (that should have been thrown much higher). Then after the catch - most of these same spectators seem to not understand that she has to gather and take however many defenders that are hanging all over her - with her to the basket, and then manage to score.
In a perfect world - I wish we could educate sports fans who really are not savvy in relation to the sport they may be watching at the time, but this is not how life works. What I will say is that falcon fans need to support all of our sports programs unconditionally at all times, not just sometimes - this is how we will change the culture at DHS. We have to love each other as students and as parents just because we are all falcons.
Sports does equal school pride - in our case, we need to show pride all of the time. Even if we were 0-25 in a sport, we should never put down our family. School pride should be all of the time, not just when you are on top in a particular sport. School pride should be academic pride as well - like taking pride in Patricia's accomplishments since she has represented her school so well in the classroom with an over 4.0 gpa.
This young lady is just beginning to start her ascension as a basketball player, lets take pride in one of our own. Congratulations to her entire family - her great parents Kevin and Emily, her big brother Kyle, and her grandparents on both sides of her family - in particular Sr. Coach Morris.
Trish - Congrats young lady for all of your hard work that have led to dreams being realized, keep working hard and believing in your dreams.

THE HONORS CONTINUE TO ROLL IN - TRIBUNE COACH OF THE YEAR, THREE FALCONS BEING NAMED TO ALL-VALLEY TEAMS
Falcon's Head Coach Scott Wiard was named SGV Tribune girls basketball coach of the year for 2015-2016 season. Coach Wiard did a fantastic job in beginning to change the culture of expectations and responsibilities for every player in the program. In defining coaching success you look for more than wins and losses, but what other intangibles are brought to the table. Coach Wiard was able to instill a belief in hard work and give this years team a defined identity on both ends of the floor, something they lacked a year ago. With his guidance, this group of kids was able to combine athletic discipline and the ability to execute at a high level to achieve team success - great job Coach Wiard. In addition to Coach Wiard being honored, our big three were honored once again. Senior Mackenzie Barnes and Sophomore Patricia Morris were both named 1st team ALL-Valley, while Junior standout Ryley Thompson was named 2nd team ALL-Valley. The entire team and coaching staff made all of these honors possible - simply put, no one player is more important than the team - the team is what's most important in this program.

Coach of the Year: Scott Wiard, Duarte
Talk about a chip off the old block.
Scott Wiard, the son of legendary girls basketball coach Richard Wiard, who won multiple CIF Southern Section and State titles and multiple area Coach of the Year awards during his long tenure at Bishop Amat High School, has carved a name for himself in just his first year as a coach at Duarte.
After leading Duarte to the Montview League championship, Duarte kept it going, defeating Yucca Valley, El Segundo and Lompoc before losing in the final seconds to St. Paul, 45-44, in the CIF-SS Division 4AA championship game at Azusa Pacific University. It was Duarte’s first girls basketball championship game appearance in school history.
Although the Falcons came up short, area fans got the idea that with Scott Wiard there will likely be many more opportunities. For his efforts, Wiard has been named the 2016 Tribune girls basketball Coach of the Year.
“It was an amazing experience to get to the CIF finals,” Scott Wiard said. “I think it was very rewarding for the kids who worked so hard all year to accomplish something special.”
Wiard said the best moment came in a come-from-behind 43-42 semifinal win over Lompoc on the road that punched the Falcons’ championship game ticket.
“It defined who we were so well,” Wiard recalled. “The walk through and pregame were business-like because we knew we had a job to do.
“Then we stressed all year ‘32 minutes of us’ and that game defined it especially as we overcame them jumping out to an early lead. Then the long ride home was so much fun. When we stopped for dinner, none of the kids were on their phones, they were just enjoying the moment with each other because more important than anything, our kids were a family.”
Duarte also beat Orosi in the first round of the CIF State Division IV playoffs before losing to St. Anthony in the second round to finish a remarkable 28-5 overall.
And like his days at Amat when Scott Wiard was an assistant to his father, they kept the family affair going. Richard was Scott’s assistant coach and his mom, Kathleen, kept the scorebook.
“I would like to say that this year proves you can still be successful in high school with kids from the same neighborhood if they believe in each other and have a common goal,” Scott Wiard said. “I’d also like to thank my family. My dad who helped make decisions on and off the court, my mom who kept score for us, and my sister who kept score a few games, filmed a few games, and even helped scout a few games.”

FIVE FALCONS MERIT LEAGUE RECOGNITION - ONE FALCON WINS LEAGUE MVP AWARD
Senior Mackenzie Barnes was named Montview league MVP in addition to earning 1st team ALL- Montview league honors. Standout junior guard Ryley Thompson and standout sophomore center Patricia Morris also earned 1st team ALL- Montview league honors. These three young ladies had outstanding seasons leading the team in almost every offensive/defensive category.
Two other Falcons who were heavy contributors were honored as well. Senior Sophia Calvo earned 2nd team ALL-Montview league honors, while senior guard Karmeece Robinson earned honorable mention ALL-Montview league honors. One Falcon absent from these lists was Freshman Delaney Thompson. Delaney had a tremendous year, showing her mettle all year long; she truly deserved to named to at least the Montview's 2nd team - at the very least be named to the Honorable mention ALL-League team. Next year these honors will take care of themselves once her role is expanded in running the ball club. In closing - the entire community would like to congratulate all of these young ladies, as well as the entire Falcon team and coaching staff on a tremendous year. Falcon Nation is so proud of all of you.

FALCONS SEASON COMES TO AN END - 3/12/2016
TOUGH END TO A GREAT YEAR - CIF 4-AA RUNNER UP, CIF DIV.4 QUARTERFINALIST
The big three - Senior Mackenzie Barnes, Junior Ryley Thompson, and Sophomore Patricia Morris did all they could last night in leading the Falcons into battle versus the St. Anthony Saints in a CIF State Quarterfinal game at DHS gymnasium. All three had their moments when they stood tall in efforts of leading the Falcons to victory. Ryley Thompson had a tremendous game last night, exploding for a team high 20 points, 8 of which came in an impressive 2 minute sharpshooting outburst that put the opponents on their heels - keeping the Falcons close. Mackenzie Barnes played a great game in spite of the constant attention by multiple opposing players guarding her. Kenzie worked hard all night in orchestrating the Falcons offense as best she could under duress. Sophomore Patricia Morris played an outstanding game even with all the attention she always commands during the course of a game. Every touch in the paint saw two to three opponents scrambling to guard Trish as she tried to operate down low. Freshman Delaney Thompson came in and provided her usual spark, while also lending a hand to her cousin Mackenzie in running the Falcons offense. Senior Jada Richards, Senior Karmeece Robinson, and Senior Sophia Calvo all played hard - providing defense, rebounding, and scoring in their supporting roles just as they have all season long. The Falcons were without another key contributor in sophomore Macey Barnes. Macey had been unavailable the past two games battling illness. Senior Giselle Lopez, Senior Alexa Campos, Junior Georgina Zamora, and Sophomore Dani Anguiano have all performed admirably all season long in support roles for the Falcons. This team has had an unbelievable season this year, these young ladies deserve a lot of credit for working as hard as they have from summer to now to get to this point. History for DHS basketball has been shaped for others to follow for years to come - great job ladies!!!!!

Duarte girls basketball in semifinals for first time with 38-36 win

DUARTE >> Fourth-seeded Duarte survived a scare from No. 12 El Segundo and advanced to the CIF Southern Section semifinals for the first time in school history with a 38-36 Division 4AA quarterfinal win over the Eagles on Wednesday night.
The Falcons (26-3) set a season record for wins and will play at Lompoc, an upset winner over No. 1 Marymount, at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
“I don’t know if it was an escape,” first-year Falcons coach Scott Wiard said. “It’s just beating a really good team. Their point guard (Paige Endo) is a special player.”
The game was a battle from start to finish, with the score tied at the end of each of the first three quarters.
Neither team had a lead greater than four points, and there were 10 ties and eight lead changes. The last, and most important, change came with 32.8 seconds left when Sofia Calvo put in a layup after a scramble under the basket to put the Falcons up 37-36.
“I’m not sure we played our best basketball,” Wiard said. “But that’s a credit to them. We talked all week about trying to get a stop and then we got it there at the end when we were down a point.”
The Falcons’ final margin came on a free throw by point guard MacKenzie Barnes with 10.6 seconds left.
Then they had to sweat out two late shots by Endo, the last a 3-point attempt that rattled off the rim.
“(Endo) might have been a little tired,” Wiard said. “She plays 32 minutes every game, but she’s special.”
Endo led all scorers with 18 points.
The Falcons scored two quick baskets to start the second quarter, then didn’t score for five and a half minutes while the Eagles took a 20-16 lead. But Calvo hit a pair of free throws and Barnes stole the ball at mid-court and took it in for a layup at the buzzer to tie the score at 20-20.
Barnes and Patricia Morris led the Falcons with 12 points each. Morris scored four points down the stretch, including a huge offensive rebound and putback halfway through the final quarter.
“They did a terrific job on (Morris),” Wiard said. “She’s a very good offensive rebounder, but they put so much pressure on you it’s hard to rotate.”
The Eagles knocked No. 5 Covina out of the playoffs in the second round and finished the season with a 17-12 record.

FALCONS SURVIVE AND ADVANCE WITH 38-36 WIN - 3RD ROUND/QUARTERFINAL GAME
Falcons get hard fought victory over EL Segundo High School @ DHS gymnasium last night. In one of the most exciting playoff games you will ever see, our Falcons pulled out a win behind the outstanding play of the big 3 - Mackenzie Barnes, Ryley Thompson, and Patricia Morris. Delaney Thompson did an excellent job defensively when assigned to slow down El Segundo's dynamic point guard Paige Endo. Give credit where credit is due, she carried the Eagles, but in the end our Falcons got three defensive stops in a row to seal the deal. Karmeece Robinson, Sophia Calvo, Jada Richards, and Macey Barnes all did a great job in their roles last night to help the Falcons survive this slug fest 38-36. Our Falcons became the first girls or boys basketball team in school history to advance to the CIF Semi-finals. Great job coaching staff and Falcons players!!!!!!

FALCONS ROLL - 2ND ROUND PLAYOFF WIN OVER YUCCA VALLEY, Feb.20th
Our Lady Falcons won in impressive fashion on Sat., Feb 20th at DHS gymnasium. The Falcons started the game off with a 14-4 lead at one point before watching the Lady Trojans of Yucca Valley go on a 8-2 run to cut the Falcon lead to 16-10. This would be the closest the Trojans would get as the Falcons closed the half on a 8-2 run of their own and took a 24-12 lead to the locker room at the half. Defensively the Falcons turned it up a notch, holding Yucca Valley to 6 points in the 3rd quarter to blow the game wide open going into the fourth quarter with a 30 point lead. The Trojans and Falcons have both played Ganesha within the span of one calendar year, our 99-56 win in last years second round of the CIF playoffs versus the same exact Ganesha squad Yucca Valley beat last week should have given people hints as to what the outcome would be. No one should have been surprised by the Falcons victory even with the lack of respect our program seems to garner in the press. With the win, our Falcons will host EL Segundo High School on Wednesday Feb.24th @ 7PM. COME SUPPORT YOUR FALCONS!!!!!!!!!

FALCONS FALL ONE PLACE IN VALLEY RANKINGS TO # 3, REMAIN #6 CIF 4-AA RANKINGS - FEB.10TH, 2016
Duarte has been quite impressive this year running it's record to 22-3, 8-0 in league, but still get penalized in recent basketball polls for lack of highly regarded competition within the Mountview league conference according to observers. Never mind that certain leagues like the Miramonte league that Bassett won this year is far worse than the Montview league. Never mind that the writers at the Tribune obviously forgot we had a home and away series with Covina quite recently and blew them out on a regular basis which ended that scheduling. The Lady Falcons resume this year has been built with good wins outside of their conference schedule. They have a win over CIF 1-A #10 Crescenta Valley in the West Coast Classic. They have a 20 plus point win over CIF 4-A #6 Louisville (Woodland Hills) in championship game of Azusa tournament; mind you that Louisville has a recent conference win over CIF 4-AA #3 St. Monica by double digits. The Lady Falcons also boast wins over CIF 3-A #7 Leuzinger, CIF 3-A # 9 South Pasadena, CIF 3-A #11 Palos Verdes, CIF 2-A #15 Rio Mesa all by double digits. The lack of respect for our program is quite evident, so let's hope our girl's play up to the standard they have set so far this season to show everyone that they have become a basketball program to be respected in the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding area's.

July 20,2015 - Summer season coming to an end.
The Lady Falcons have had a busy summer, gaining an understanding of coach Wiard's offensive and defensive philosophy's. The learning process has been fast at times, slow at other times, but the returning Falcons and newcomers have really started to adapt as the summer is ending. The team has participated in the San Gabriel High School Summer Splash, The Summer Heat Classic in Palm Springs as well as a summer league at Arroyo High School. The Falcons have been matched up against some of the best teams in So.Cal and performed exceptionally well. The Ladies have their last two summer league games at Arroyo High School on July 21, 2015 at 5pm and 7pm. Head Coach Scott Wiard, along with Assistant Coaches Richard Wiard and Karen Dimayuga have done an absolutley tremendous job with this group of young ladies. All of Falcon Nation is looking forward to a great season for the Falcons and for Coach Wiard in his inaugural campaign at the helm of the Falcon Basketball program.
